‹ Sweeping Changes in China’s Travel Industry •
The JAL Group has sought the approval of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism (MLIT) to lift the international fuel surcharge imposed on passenger tickets of Japan Airlines (JAL). The fuel surcharge on international tickets of the Japanese carrier was introduced in reply to the rise of jet fuel prices in 2005.
As the price of Singaporean kerosene remained below USD 60 per barrel fuel prices from February to April 2009, the Japanese carrier removed the international fuel surcharge for tickets issued from July 1 to September 30. The removal of the fuel surcharge on JAL’s fourth quarter international tickets will hinge on fuel prices for the period of May through July 2009.
