APTEC 2

About APTEC 2

From 2006 to 2007 on the request of the five Nordic tourist boards, the STB research unit carried out an extensive study of no less than 13 countries across Asia Pacific. This, the biggest study of Asian tourism to date, came to be the popular APTEC Project/White Paper Series. Building upon a patchwork of research tools from desk research and questionnaires to focus groups and 1-on-1 interviews, the project spans well over 1,000 pages. Leaving no stone unturned, APTEC examines both the travel trade, the travel political environment, air carriers, and, of course, the travelers themselves.

Due to the success of APTEC, the Nordic tourist boards agreed to commission a sequel: APTEC 2. Whereas APTEC applied a bird’s eye view of APAC tourism, APTEC 2 will probe into the minds of the travelers in order to map the drivers and motives that determine and shape traveler behavior. In other words, what are the wishes/desires/needs that trigger travelers to choose certain destinations, accommodations, tour packages etc.?

Unlike most studies on a similar scale, APTEC 2 has been made non-exclusive and is, therefore, open to all interested. This provides tourism players in general and ETC members in particular with a rare opportunity to engage in large scale research not affordable on an individual basis. The many components of the APTEC 2 package can be studied below.

The APTEC 2 study will be conducted during 2008 with the papers set for release beginning, 2009.
